Soju + Noraebang

I am in love with this place. Last night I had every intention of staying in, studying, and going to bed early. However, after some convincing I decided to go out for some drinks with about 12 other ETAs. We ended up going to a bar called Milwaukee Bucks (why they chose that name, I have no idea) and were led to a large booth type of thing with a long table for all of us to sit at. We ordered Soju, three gigantic pitchers of beer and plates of fruit (so good!). It was great just sitting around and relaxing with everyone and playing some Korean drinking games. We stayed there for a few hours and then left to go home. On our way home we somehow decided we wanted to go to noraebang. Noraebang is a Korean favorite and involves renting small rooms with your friends where you sing 90's pop music and k-pop. It's probably the best thing ever invented! On the way to noraebang we picked up some Korean girls to come and sing with us. They sang their k-pop songs and even sang some Britney Spears with us. We ended up staying there until 3am! I'm so excited to go and do it again tomorrow night and Saturday.
We really are like celebrities here. Whenever we walk around, especially off of campus we get stared at by everyone. As you can see in the pictures below, we met some really fun Korean ballerinas outside of the bar.
The weather today was absolutely awful. We had torrential downpours for literally the entire day...it did not let up. I don't know if I've mentioned before but Korean women are always dressed nicely and are wearing high heels. I found out today that they even wear heels when it is pouring rain.
Earlier tonight I attended a traditional Korean tea ceremony. It was pretty cool. We learned how to properly do all of the steps involved in the ceremony and were able to drink some tea. The woman who led the ceremony was so cute in her Korean garb.
PS- Leave me comments please!

Of course we would choose a bar called the Milwuakee Bucks.

  2. Cassidy,

I am your mother's boss. I am thoroughly enjoying reading about your experiences in South Korea. Your comments remind me so much of my Fulbright experience in Taiwan (I was a visiting professor at a university in Taiwan). I remember that there were a group of Fulbright "ETA's" who were teaching English in elementary schools throughout Taiwan. They were just your age and they seemed to have such a good time with each other. They had such impressive backgrounds. I am so glad that you are getting to have this experience. I look forward to reading more about your adventures in the days to come.

  3. Haha I think it's terribly weird for there to be a basketball themed bar in the middle of Korea... how much does one of those monstrous sized pitchers cost? Also, has girl talk made his name known in the club scene? Hope all is still well!
